Are you considering the purchase of a hot tub for your home, but are unsure of what maintenance is involved?

If so, this post is for you. It explains the general maintenance that is required to keep a hot tub in tip top condition

Keep the Water Topped Up…
You will need to top up the water in your hot tub from time to time. How often will depend on how much water is lost when people get into or out of the hot tub, and how much water evaporates if you regularly leave the cover off.
Be careful not to overfill your hot tub though.
Test the Water in the Hot Tub Regularly…
We recommend daily testing to ensure your chemical levels are correct, meaning your water is balanced, sanitised, clean and safe!
This is a very simple process done in a few minutes using a testing kit or test strips.
You may need to add chemicals to the hot tub depending on the results but this is as simple as adding granules directly to the water.
Clean or Replace the Hot Tub Filter Regularly…
The main filter of your hot tub is the first line of defence for keeping foreign objects and dirt out. It needs to be cleaned regularly.
If the filter is not cleaned and replaced regularly, it can cause flow issues which can result is replacement pumps being required.
Despite how much you use the hot tub…. It is recommended that you rinse your filter with a standard garden hose or shower head at least once a week.
It should be soaked in an approved filter cleaner once a month and replaced every 6 months. (If you have a spare and you rotate filters monthly, replace the pair annually.)
Drain, Clean and Refill Your Hot Tub…
This is one of the most important tasks but only needs to be carried out once per quarter.
It is recommended by BISHTA that ANY hot tub is drained and refilled once every 3 months. This is due to the total dissolved solids level / saturation level within the water.
Once the hot tub is drained, you will need to clean the tub itself and the fittings.
Once everything is clean it is time to refill the hot tub, the water can be tested and re-balanced once it has reached the desired temperature.
Ad-hoc Maintenance Tasks…
Hot Tub Covers & Pillows require little maintenance, these can be wiped over with warm water and a soft sponge once a month.
Any stainless steel items should be wiped over with a microfibre cloth daily to weekly and these will oxidise.
